Ipso facto, I am NOT cut-out for the consulting world. Or, an alternative hypothesis has me cut-out for a world of corporate IT consulting that existed many years ago, when rates were flying high and stability was a less foreign concept....when developing perhaps a tad bit of loyalty to one's current position wasn't entirely ludicrous. Oh...who am I kidding? Has corporate America EVER been the slightest bit loyal to it's rank-&-file? Or was it just that a certain capitalist lead over the competition afforded American companies the kind of income that could be exchanged for the pretense of taking care of employees?
Don't get me wrong....I learned a great deal at the multi-billion dollar corporation that can no longer afford my salary. I learned a good bit technically and about the industry. More important to me, though, is the fact that I learned more about one of my favorite subjects....namely, the human interaction of individuals within the corporation. Individuals employed by a giant, hierarchical, multi-leveled corporation who, nevertheless, operate as though they are entrepreneurs with sole responsibility for an organization that they have founded...to the detriment of those they have been entrusted with leading.
Well, past positions are in the past....nothing to be done but to learn what we can and move on....
